Hewlett-Packard Co. on Tuesday announced the latest version of Palm’s mobile operating system and a new model of smart phone Palm Pre.
HP, which Palm acquired earlier this year worth 1.2 billion dollars into the market for smart phones and tablet computers that is currently dominated by Apple Inc, said, Pre 2 will be the first handset running the operating system WebOS 2.0, a new version of software Palm, which was launched in 2009.
Pre 2 will be available in France on Friday and will be sold in the coming months in the United States by Verizon Wireless – a joint venture company Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group Plc – and in Canada.
Palm phone launched last year with a review of Pre interesting but poor sales, and HP hopes to revitalize the brand through a significant investment and a great way of sales.
Palm only get 1.2 percent of the global smart phone market share in 2009, according to Gartner.
HP will launch a tablet computer based webOS Palm operating system next year.
